I believe that Lake Titicaca in the altiplano of Peru and Bolivia is the largest lake in South America by volume of water and it is also probably the highest such large lake in the world and I believe it is at an elevation of about 12,500 feet. The indigenous tribe, the Uros live on reed islands within it.
