Earthquakes are caused by the shifting of tectonic plates. when two tectonic plates collide against each other they cause earthquakes. The colliding of these tectonic plates can form mountains and volcanoes. Some of the most common mountains are formed due to tectonic plate movement such as Mt. Fuji which sits at an intersection of 3 plates.
