In Canada, environmental factors that affected human migration ie of the European immigrants was especially the Great Plains or the Prairies as we call them in Canada which attracted potential farmers of wheat, and other crops. Also, mineral resources have resulted in mass migrations, sometimes quite short-lived as in the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon on the creeks near Dawson City. Mining towns have sprung up to service the mining industry such as Dawson City in the late 1890's or more recently Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. Gold seekers were also attracted to the western side of the sierras in California in about 1848 as well.
