The characteristic of a star would an astronomer likely NOT use when classifying the star is location.

    Explanation:

The HR diagram is a tool that can be used for the classification of stars through a graph. The stars are classified based on some factors such as, Spectral type, color, luminosity (brightness), temperature and age. Those stars that are very hot comes under O type and those stars that are cool falls under M type.

Temperature and color of the stars can be related with each other because, the stars that are very hot appears blue and those that are cool appears red. Stars can also be classified based on their age. Location is NOT considered for the stars classification because all the stars appears to be at the same distance from the earth.
