What would happen to shipping companies if the Gulf Stream stopped?

The Gulf Stream can be define as the stream of water originates in the gulf of mexico and stretches to the Florida. It consists of warm water. It provides the protective warm shield of water over the Europe.

If the Gulf stream stopped the environment of the colder polar region will become more severe. This will result in crash of marine diversity along the US east coast. This can result in destruction of the food chains, situations of starvation for population depending upon fish food, and misery.
