    Yes, it should be legal to patent genetically modified organisms.

    Explanation:

    The genetically modified organisms are becoming more and more widespread and they are used more and more around the globe. Despite being a food source, they can not be treated in the same manner as the organisms that have developed naturally.

    The reason for this is that in order to get to this organisms, a company needs to invest heavily, create a business plan, open up a market, make technological advancements etc. All this gives good basis for any company that produces these type of organisms to apply for patenting them, as they have undergone through all the standard processes of innovation, production, promotion, and selling of the product that are required for patenting it.
