To grab readers attention bad news is important for nation.

    Explanation:

Bad news are unusual in nature. If something good is written in a newspaper, suppose" 40,000 people got job in XYZ company" people will not read the story. On the other side if there is a news that " 40 people were injured in a train accident" people will read it. They will read it not because it is sensational, they will read it to know why the train accident occured.

Now news have become a free market. There is a huge competition in the media industry. They always keep in mind what type of news will grab the interest of the readers and try to give more importance to those stories.

Thus more pessimistic news are appreciated than optimistic news because the nation is influenced by the bad news.
