English is the native language of roughly 56% of the population, while French is the language of 20.6%. However, Canada has a very high rate of immigration, and its multicultural society extends to the languages spoken in the country. Around 20% of the population of the country speaks a language other than English or French at home. Out of these, 6.4 million speak an immigrant language, while roughly 213,000 speak an Aboriginal language.
