Natural selection allows populations to evolve overtime because it erases bad traits from a specific animal or organism. For example there is a species of elephant that don't grow tusk. This is because all the elephants with long tusks were being hunted and killed leaving only the elephants with short tusks to reproduce. Eventually only elephants with no tusk were left to reproduce. This is an example of evolution in natural selection.
