What's the difference between a full moon and a new moon

The full moon phase occurs when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, called opposition. A lunar eclipse can only happen at full moon.

A full moon is when you can see the whole moon and a new moon is when you cannot see the moon.
