How did the physical environment of river valleys negatively impact ancient civilizations? The land was attractive to outside invaders who wished to conquer the land. Rivers prevented the people from moving because they could not cross them. Occasionally, extreme flooding caused great damage and killed many people. Silt in the rivers made the water dirty and possibly unsafe for people to drink.

    The physical environment of the rivers valley civilization started around Egypt, Mesopotamia, Indus valley and yellow river. These rivers were an important source for water and agriculture and provided additional benefits such as fishing and fertile soils due to flooding etc. Some of the negative physical impacts of this river valleys civilization were that they happened the movement of the people and thus giving them protection from other invaders. As these rivers stretched for several kilometers they could not be easily crossed.
