Māori people's complete authority over their own tribal areas lead to the destroyed quality of relations with the Pakeha.

    Explanation:

The treaty of Waitangi was signed on Feb 1840 by the representative of the Maori chiefs and the British in the north island of New Zealand. This agreement gave Maori their ownership of land, forest and gave them the rights of British subjects. The Pākehā were the first European settlers that arrived in New Zealand most were missionaries, traders and did not have intentions to stay permanently. Most of them were kept as slaves by the Maori people as they were less in number. They were denied country resources and often encounters were not friendly.
