It has been extremely difficult for the citizens. First, the unemployment rate has increased tremendously due to the shrinking sea, the city used to be known for fishing, and so many of the citizens made money by fishing, the port was also useful, as it employs citizens to work there. Some of them were responsible for the repairs of boats, and the once lively town is now a ghost town, the rise in unemployment has led to an increase in crime, also it has been reported that change in the ecological situation has led to deformed kids been born.

Once upon a time, people all over the Soviet Union bought their fish because they were very tasty.

The citizens of Aralsk are yet to overcome the change brought about by the sinking sea, they have accepted their fate, and hoping for a sunshine.
