The reason for this is that the peach's structure comes similar in appearance to what is thought that the Earth's structure is. The thin skin of the peach will represent the lithosphere, the crust, which is the top layer, but also the thinnest. The thick section of fruit will represent the mantle layer, which is significantly larger, denser, but also more liquid. The pit in the center will represent the densest layer, the core of the of the Earth.
