    Explanation: Fractures or zones of fractures exist between between two blocks of rocks enabling to their movement relative to each other. These fractures are referred to as Faults. There are three types of fault namely;

    1. Normal fault

    2. Thrust fault

    3. Transform or strike-slip fault

    The San andreas and Hayward faults are classified as strike-slip faults as the rocks glide each other horizontally with no visible vertical movement.
