How did sugarcane from caribbean end up in rum in new england without major hardship

    Slave trade and sugar cane trade went hand in hand. There were island-based sugarcane plantations where the sugar could be quickly harvested, stored and then put on a ship. Slaves traded were put to work on these plantations, as well as in the boilers where the sugarcane was processed into usable sugar.
