The Gobi desrt is a desert that lacks rainfall as the Himalayas block the clouds that brings rain. This is the reason behind calling the Gobi desert as the rain shadow desert. The Gobi desert is 800 kms long from north to south and 1000 km from southwest to northeast. The Gobi desert is the largest Asian desert and also the fifth largest desert in the whole world. It is covered by numerous bare rocks.
