One of the main reasons why some areas to the east of the pacific mountain ranges are having a desert climate is that the " air loses much of its moisture as it moves from the pacific ocean eastward up the mountains." In addition, the significant influence of the Pacific Ocean proved to be a factor for desertification among these lands as it moderates temperature extremes.
