Yes, the Renaissance itself was a rebirth of Classical ideology. While the increase in trade did contribute to the progression of Renaissance ideas, the Renaissance began as a cultural movement in Italy around the late 13th Century. The "rebirth" or "Renaissance" of Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy (humanism) is most likely accredited to the arrival of Greek scholars and texts in Florence. The Age of Exploration (when the Europeans began to dominate the trade routes) happened mid-14th century and was inspired by the influx of new ideas brought by the Renaissance.
