    There are three categories to describe volcanoes: extinct, dormant, and active. Extinct means it is not expected to erupt again. Dormant means it has not erupted in say ... the last 10,000 years, but could erupt again. Active means it has erupted within the past 10,000 years. Some so-called extinct volcanoes have erupted. So ... you decide. Active? Dormant?
