1. Why are there active volcanoes along the Pacific coast in Washington and Oregon but not along the East coast of the United States?

    volcanoes form near or close to tectonic plate boundaries (Convergent ones). The pacific coast is formed by two of converging ones ... namely pacific and north-american plate. As there are no such plate boundaries along the east coast, there are no volcanoes along the same.
