Why is the black earth region in Russia called Black Earth?

The Black Earth Region or the Central Chernozem Region in Russia takes its name from the type of soil that exists there which is considered "black earth" or "chernozem." This type of soil is very fertile and has made this region an agricultural center in Russia.
