There are four forces that exist within an atom: gravitational, electromagnetic, weak, and strong forces. Electromagnetic forces combines the effects of an electrical charge and magnetism which attract or repel particles in the atom. The weak forces in an atom stabilize it through a process called radioactive decay. Gravity is the force of attraction between all objects in the universe, including atoms although it is the weakest force in an atom. Strong forces oppose the electromagnetic force of repulsion between the protons keeping them glued together.
