    The settlement of humans came after the time of hunter and gatherers, who typically moved a lot and changed their living place. This life-style (moving a lot) meant that nature could compensate for what people took: the food they collected could grow back and the animals they killed to eat could re-populate the are.

    The settlement of humans meant that nature could no longer replenish itself and that the human impact on nature became long-lasting
