European immigrants v. asian immigrants compare and contrast

    European and Asian immigrants entering America had several similarities and differences.

    Similarities:

    A) Both had to go through a serious of physical and mental tests before entering the US through Ellis or Angel Island.

    B) Both came to America in hopes of economic prosperity.

    C) Both faced negative stereotypes/mistreatment by nativists (nativists are individuals who are anti-immigrant and want the government to focus on the needs of native born citizens).

    Differences:

    A) Asian immigrants came through Angel Island, located in San Francisco, while European immigrants came through Ellis Island, located in New York.

    B) Thousands of Asian immigrants got jobs building railroads in the US. European immigrants work consisted more of factory work.
