Plymouth, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, created The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut. They were the precursors of the Constitution of America and also the first to try to form their own laws, even under the domination of the British Crown. The document they created and agreed upon was the first American constitution, The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, which in 1639 established a state of law for the cities of Wethersfield, Windsor, and Hartford. They were looking for a way to self-govern and they did so because little by little they tolerated less control of the British in the new colonies.
