Deficit spending does contribute to funding government programs. A deficit is the amount of money that is spent by the federal government over the amount allotted (amount realized) in a given year. Deficit spending is when the government spends more than it has accumulated. The government accumulates money from the taxes it collects from citizens. Thus, spending from the deficit occurs in order to fund programs, and a deficit can occur from spending too much on programs.
