What caused a border dispute between Great Britain and Venezuela

    The border dispute existed because they couldn't agree to whom does the territory around of Essequibo and Guayana Esequiba belong. Venezuela claimed that it was their territory while Britain claimed that it belonged to their British Guiana territory. This was important also worldwide because of the Monroe doctrine and US interventionism.
