How did engineers overcome the obstacles that the geography of panama posed to the building of the panama canal?

    In order to overcome the geographical obstacles while building the Panama Canal, engineers had to first build a dam which included designing and building locks and then remove large portions of rock and earth. During this time scientists also had to develop numerous vaccines to treat malaria that affected many workers.
