Hello, hope all is well. John F. Kennedy was elected as the first Roman Catholic president with 0.002 separating him from Richard Nixon. When Kennedy took the oath of office in January of 1961, he had to deal with domestic issues, which wouldn’t mentioned in his inaugural address and foreign issues, the Soviets. One issue Kennedy dealt with early on was dealing with the Soviets and their ally Cuba. This being the failed Bay of Pigs invasion a few months into his presidency. His big accomplishment came in the form of the Cuba Missile Crisis, as the Soviets agreed to dismantle their arms in Cuba and for Kennedy to dismantle his arms in Turkey. 1963 was Kennedy’s last year in office before his eventual assassination as this was an era of civil rights, in which tension rose high for African Americans to get their civil rights. This causing Kennedy to roll out in June of 1963, civil rights bills to go into congress, which wouldn’t pass until after his assassination. Kennedy had a short presidency of just a little over 1,000 days, but he started the lighting rod for Civil rights.
