America. The foundation of new cities in the continent meant the exploitation of new resources, such as cotton and sugar. This enterprise required a lot of manpower, and the settlers did not found in natives enough strength and numbers to meet their expectations. So it was easier for them to bring africans as slaves, a stronger race who was seen as lesser human at the time, and put them to work in the plantations by the French, Spanish and Portuguese, who held most of America in those days.
