How did the federal government change after the Civil War?

It encouraged regional and sectional differences.

It grew smaller as power was given back to the states.

It more directly influenced the everyday lives of Americans.

It was no longer founded on the Constitution.

    I'm pretty positive that C is the right answer because the federal government got bigger after the Civil War which would mean that federal government had influence on peoples lives. The rest just don't make sense. Sorry if this is wrong but I'm really positive its C.
