Why were some people angry with the Catholic Church by 1500?

List reasons why.

By 1500, the Catholic Church was all powerful. There was no alternative sect of Christianity. However, peasants were angry about how the rich presided over the church. They could buy their sons high positions in the church and be assured that they would attain salvation. But the poor had to pay for everything. They had to pay huge amounts for their children to be baptized, for newlywed couples to be blessed, and even for a burial.

Additionally, the church sold indulgences, "certificates" that the rich bought to be pardoned of any sins. These were produced in bulk and signed by the pope. The rich were assured that buying these indulgences would get them into heaven, which was all people wanted at the time. This angered peasants because indulgences were ridiculously expensive.
