What British action convinced Americans that the Third Amendment was necessary?

    When America was still controlled by Greatness Britain, the British government forced American colonists to house British soldiers whenever they wanted. This was made possible by the Quartering Act.

    This is why the third amendment of the US Constitution states that citizens do not have to quarter/house soldiers.
