    The major thing that made the Mormon migration different from other migrations of the time was the fact that Mormons were migrating to escape persecution in Illinois. Other migrations were simply made for greater economic opportunities and money. A great example of this would be the migration that occurred in 1849. Thousands of people began quickly moving to California. Why? Because of the Gold Rush. People wanted to find gold, so they came rushing.
