What was the purpose of the Molotov rippentrop pact

The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, or the Nazi-Soviet pact was the guide that delineated the spheres of interest between both powers. It was confirmed by the "supplementary protocol" of the German-Soviet Frontier Treaty amended after the joint invasion of Poland.
