The framers of the Constitution sought to align with Great Britain for economic reasons. The Federalist Party, with commitment to Alexander Hamilton, and the Democratic-Republican Party by Jefferson and Madison were at odds over Hamilton's economic program, agrarian vs. industrialized interests, and foreign alignments favouring either Britain or France. However in the end, the framers sought to align with Britain.
