How did Egypt's location both limit and invite interaction with other cultures

They use soldiers to keep people out and have a government and king to invite other countries for trade/meetings. It was quite important in history because if they wanted to limit people it most likely meant they wanted to keep them away for military problems or in some cases they wanted to keep away enemies.
