The Goodnight - Loving Trail was a trail utilized as a part of the steers drives of the late 1860s for the expansive scale development of Texas Longhorns. It is named after cattlemen Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving.

It started at Fort Belknap along part of the previous course of the Butterfield Overland Mail, traversing the Staked Plains to Horsehead Crossing, north along the Pecos River and over Pope's Crossing, into New Mexico to Fort Sumner. The trail then proceeded with north into Colorado up to Denver and was reached out on into Wyoming.
