How did the american government view the Native American nations living in the Louisiana Territory?

    At first, they wanted to remove them from the area and had numerous Indian Removal Acts. After the civil war, they stopped trying remove them by force and adopted a policy of assimilation where they wanted to convert them to Christianity and take them to schools and things like that that would make them drop their native heritage.
