What church abuses led Martin Luther to challenge the Roman Catholic Church?

The church was taking money for selling people pieces of paper that said that their sins were forgiven. Luther believed that sins being forgiven depends on god and your repentance and that such a thing cannot be bought with money and that the Church was just taking all the wealth for itself.
