Explain how the forces of liberalism and nationalism affected events in the US during the 1800's.

The United States was formed with New Enlightenment ideals. Though sometimes these liberal ideals were questionable. Jeffersonâ? s ideal of a â? Nation of small farmersâ? included a growing number of large plantation owners including himself and slavery continued to be an issue. New Liberalism included Rooseveltâ? s New Deal and the Social Security Act of 1935. The Founding Fathers stressed Civic Nationalism.
