    1. Taxation without representation ... American colonies were angry about paying taxes that were passed by the British Parliament because they had no representatives that voted on the tax.

    2. The Quartering Act of 1765 ... This act ordered the colonists to provide "quarters" for British soldiers. They also had to provide food and supplies for the soldiers. Who would want a stranger invading your home in a time of peace?

    3. The Stamp Act of 1765 ... This was a tax law that said the colonists had to pay taxes on all printed paper including stamps, newspapers, pamphlets, marriage licenses, and playing cards. This is an example of taxation without representation.

    4. The Boston Massacre, March 5, 1770 ... A violent outburst that occurred when a crowd was gathered outside the Customs House (tax collector's building). The crowd started throwing snow balls and British soldiers began shooting. Five colonists were killed and six were wounded. The Americans believe these people were unjustly killed.

    5. The Boston Tea Party, December 16, 1773 ... A group of colonists dressed up as Native Americans, climbed aboard a British East India Company ship and dumped 90,000 lbs of tea into the harbor as a protest because they did not want to buy the British tea.

    6. The Intolerable Acts ... A set of acts by the British parliament to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party.
