What was the Middle Passage, and what made it so horrible?

    The Middle passage is where Africans, densely packed onto ships, were transported across the Atlantic to the West Indies. What made it so horrible was the conditions, t hey were confined to cargo holds with each slave chained with little room to move. At least 2 million Africans--10 to 15 percent--died during the Middle Passage.
