    The settlers who migrated to Roanoke and Jamestown could have had multiple reasons. Economic profit was a chief motivation, as being the first to settle this new land meant claiming a place of importance as it grew. It would unlock opportunities for those who came early. Escape from various persecutions would also have been possible. While Jamestown was not founded on a religious basis, like Plymouth, the new world offered a degree of freedom. Thrill and adventure were surely part of why people chose to go, as was the opportunity to be part of something greater than themselves.
