    There were several civilizations that lived in Mesopotamia. Such are as follows:1. Sumerians - they lived in Sumer, a southernmost region in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq and Kuwait. This is generally considered as the cradle of civilization. 2. Akkadians - the first Semitic-speaking empire of Mesopotamia3. Babylonians - they reside in an ancient Akkadian-speaking state and cultural area based in central-southern Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq) 4. Assyrians - their homeland are now parts of present-day northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, northwestern Iran and northeastern Syria5. Chaldeans - they were a Semitic-speaking nation which existed between the late 10th or early 9th and mid-6th centuries BC, after which were absorbed and assimilated into Babylonia
