The large one that comes to mind is the Temperance Movement. This was the movement to ban all alcohol. Alcohol was seen as the main cause for many issues such as abuse, poverty, and crime. The idea that if alcohol was banned then things and life would be better. As in many states, South Carolina would see a rise in the number of illegal speakeasies and stills. More people would turn to moon-shining, rum running, and boot legging to survive and make a living. There would be "wars" between those in favor of alcohol and those banning it.
