    Politically, early societies were absolute monarchies. You'd have an emperor like a Pharaoh and he'd rule everything. Socially people were commonly divided into classes, usually the highest classes being rulers and priests, then merchants and soldiers, and then peasants and slaves. Cultural exchange and economic exchange were connected because they revolved around trade. People had surplus of products and they traded it for money, picking up cultural things as well in the meantime.
