Isolationism is the idea that America should stay isolated from foreign affairs. This idea in America was caused by several factors. One of the most significant factors was the views of the American people, who believe that the American government should be focusing on solving issues in American society rather than focusing on international problems. Another cause of this sentiment was the fear of getting involved in another war. Getting involved in a foreign war would mean that US soldiers lives would be at risk for a cause that American citizens didn't really support.

This changed multiple times during 1914-1941. The US got involved in World War I despite their best efforts. The sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmerman Telegram were two of the biggest causes of this change from isolationism. The US got involved in World War II as of December 8, 1941. This was caused by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
