After World War II and the restructuring of Germany, the three Allied powers controlled more total land than the Soviet Union.

The reconstruction of Germany after World War II included dividing this country into 4 zones that would be under temporary control by the four main allied powers including the Soviet Union, United States, France, and Great Britain. Along with this, the capital of Germany (Berlin) was also split amongst these four countries.
